Amy Schumer’s new comedy Trainwreck bowed in at number three, just below Minions which dropped over 55%. The little yellow sidekicks pushed pass the $200 million mark, but despite their strong opening last weekend, aren’t likely to catch up with Pixar’s Inside Out. That movie added $11 million this weekend, hitting a domestic total of $306 million.
Jurassic World banked $11 million as well, passing the $600 million mark and becoming one of only four movies in domestic history to cross that line. In the next couple of weeks it should just inch past Marvel’s The Avengers‘ $623 million total to become the third highest grosser ever, but it will be hard pressed to hit the $658 million Titanic banked back in 1997.
Two small releases, Ian McKellen’s Mr. Holmes and Indian drama Bajrangi Bhaijaan duked it out for tenth place. While both movies made admirable showings in the per theater department, Holmes faired slightly better overall, narrowly grabbing tenth place.
